The Power of Words

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs16:24)

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21)

The book of Proverbs says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. You have the ability to choose life each day; not only for yourself, but also for those you come into contact with, such as your family members, colleagues and friends.

Begin today to weigh your words. Consider how a person’s life might change if he hears one kind or encouraging comment from you each week.

Your words have value. They are actually an investment in the lives of others. Determine specific people who need to hear kind words from you today. God often drops words of encouragement in your heart for a person you know and you can share with him or her through a text message, a call or in person. You can be sure that you will receive your investment back, with dividends. Know that when we bless others, the blessings will return to us.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, our kind words have power to lift the weight and struggles of life. Kind words often become self-fulfilling prophecies. They make it easier for people to attain their goals and live up to all they can be. They motivate people to reach for more. Don’t underestimate the power of your words.

The following is a prayer from Melinda Mahand:

“Lord, if words can wound, Can they not as well heal? Can they not as well restore? Can they not as well empower? Take my words this day and use them As an ointment where souls ache As a mortar when plans crumble As a life surge when strength ebbs God bless you much as you bless others with your words of kindness and love.
