Growing in Christ

Once we have trusted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we need to grow in our relationship with Him.

Jesus is called the “Good Shepherd” because He leads and watches over those who follow Him. Jesus said “My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me”. John 10:27.

But how do we hear the Shepherd’s voice? Our sensitivity to His voice depends on communication in 4 areas:

  • God talks to us. As we read the Bible, He speaks to us through His word and self-revelation.  2Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” God speaks to us through Scripture.

  • We talk to God. As we receive understanding from Him, we respond to Him with the affections and needs of our hearts. John 15:7 says “If you abide in me, and my words  abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” The Bible also encourages us not to be anxious about anything but in everything to present our requests to God and God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.

  • We talk with our Church Family. We are told in Hebrews 10:25 to connect with others who share our faith in Christ so that we can experience mutual encouragement and motivation to love as we ourselves have been loved. That is why we need to be connected to the church family. Serve one another at Grace Church and be blessed!

  • We talk to others about Christ.  Jesus desires for us to be His representatives to others who have yet come to know Him. One of the best ways to do this is to show honest concern for them. If people see our changed life and see our genuine interest in them, they are more likely to be curious about the difference they see in us. This will then present us an opportunity to share with them, our relationship with Jesus.

As believers of Jesus Christ, there must be a desire in us to listen to God, to respond to Him, to fellowship with other believers, and to share Jesus Christ with those who have yet come to know Him.

As you continue your journey as a follower in Jesus, let God creatively guide your path to a growing relationship with Him.

God bless you.
